This hand crank crane could lift a maximum load of 7.5 tonnes according to the plate on it. Later it was converted to run on compressed air. That's Murphy and John in the picture.
A Ford 550 wheel digger spotted in a yard near Bodmin. You can work one of these nice old diggers all day on 5 gallons of diesel.
Stupid modern machinery! The cable for the self drive has busted on my 3 year old EFCO mower. £27 for a new one and I have to take half the thing to bits to fit it! Effing-Co more like.
With the EFCO busted I put some fresh petrol in this old mower and it started! It's 40 years old, and has been out in the rain for 18 months. Plus it doesn't have silly safety devices.
Broyt excavator rigged as a face shovel with a crude FOPS cage. This is parked near the A38 at Lantoom Quarry. Despite its size this machine pulls itself around like a towable digger!
The other side of the Broyt digger. The metal wheels can be locked when digging to stop the machine moving about.
Michael from Ireland kindly emailed these pictures of a Ruston Bucyrus 22-RB which is parked by a river near his home. He thinks it may belong to the council or river board.
The 22-RB has some non-original white paintwork! It looks in good condition otherwise.
This is the first large road building project in my area for many years. I can't have a major project like this on the doorstep and not go and have look at what is going on can I? The following pictures show the main features of the new road and the machines being used to build it. They were taken in mid June 2008 on a nice sunny evening. The road will be finished in Autumn 2008.
View from A390 showing new tunnel over railway line, huge stockpile of earth and village in background.
Closer view of new tunnel built from pre-cast concrete sections lifted into place. The old iron bridge was low and the new road will go over the top of the railway.
